| When I started to make three dimentionale works more than fifteen years ago, I had tried to express "human desire," "social contradiction, " and other theme with iron or FRP. Several years later,I have felt shrinking a distance between my work and myself little by little. At the same time, I have explored for the root of natuer. Then, I launched series of "Life Works" that focus on theme of life for my work. I have been consistently working with natural materials that turn to soil, such as plants,driftwoods,and paper to represent "life in itself," or "image of living things" in my series of "Life Works" all the time. For this exhibition,I employed the same material,Uda-washi,which I used for "turning to earth work/cycles of life" in 2001, to depict "Form of life." I formed my works by my hands like wrapping up them with my heart and now I feel them as my children.Although each one of my works is made of very same material,it has different feature and personality. This summer in 2007,I am peacefly keeping my eye on my works as the mother of my children;how they start to move, how they appeal to audience,and how they communicate with viewers? June 2007 Akiko Fujimoto ■Uda-washi is made from Kozo/paper mulberry,starch of Noriutsugi, and Shiratsuchi/white clay. This is a special Japanese paper for this exhibition,which is created by Mr.Hiroyuki Fukunishi who is a craftsman of Uda-paper,Yoshino in Nara. |
